A play for the living in a time of extinction - Miranda Rose Hall / Katie Mitchell / Collectif Mensuel
Written by author Miranda Rose Hall, A play for the Living in a Time of Extinction is a play based on an original concept developed by British director Katie Mitchell for Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne in the frame of the Swiss institution's “Sustainable Theatre?” initiative.
The particularity of this play is that it tours from theatre to theatre, but doesn't require crew or set travel. Indeed, each theatre hosting the play works with its own artists, who take up the challenge to “restage” the show in accordance with the original text and concept developed by Miranda Rose Hall and Katie Mitchell.
At the Théâtre de Liège, it is the Collectif Mensuel (Blockbuster, Zaï Zaï) that has taken over the show to address the major environmental issues of our time, in a musical and offbeat staging, with their atypical and recognizable humour, bringing a touch of lightness to these essential issues. By staging Miranda Rose Hall's eco-feminist monologue, on the indications of the British director, the Collectif Mensuel incites us to reflect on our responsibility and to invest ourselves fully in the transition to a more sustainable world.
This show is part of the STAGES (Sustainable
Theatre Alliance for a Green Environmental Shift) project co-funded by the
European Union. Led by the Théâtre de Liège, this project brings together 13
theatre institutions and 1 university. It aims to foster an ecological and
social transition of the theatres involved by trying to align their work
practices with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the UN. It is an
ambitious theatre experiment to rethink how the cultural sector interacts with
the concept of sustainability. For more information on the project, please
